The Snug. The Plan.

This post wasn’t due for a while, but we’ve had a delay in the delivery of the kitchen and it won’t be with us until January (boohoo!) so over Christmas it will be full steam ahead for the other rooms in the extension so we can actually start to use our beautiful room! Soon you will be seeing my dream plans for the downstairs loo, the dining room and today you can feast your eyes on my dream snug space which I am trying to create.

I had always dreamed of a snug space in my home, somewhere were you can retire after dinner, in front of a crackling fire for one last cheeky drink or a nice coffee (who am I kidding… Port all the way! I swear I was Dowager Countess of Grantham in a previous life!) So when we decided the dining table would sit opposite the island in the main kitchen space we had a space that could be transformed into the perfect snug!

I want it to be dark, to have a mid century vibe and be a bit of fun too. So, here’s the plan… There will be a lot of eBay and Gumtree hunting to find the perfect pieces for this space, but we can’t wait to start seeing it take shape! I hope you like what I am trying to create!

A Danish Vintage sideboard (still to find!) will go along the back wall of the room and will be used to store all those necessities like placemats, coasters and general life stuff! It will also be the perfect space to add some greenery and oddities! The wonderful Ferm Living mirror which I purchased and is too heavy for the bathroom will be used in here to reflect the light from the bifolds onto the dark walls… yes we are going dark and I can not wait. I have two testers to choose from, both from Farrow and Ball – Pelt and Brinjal. I’m testing the colours out this morning and can’t wait to test them out in the room. I think it will be the perfect contrast to Setting Plaster, Studio Green and All White in the main kitchen space (which if you missed you can see what the plan is here!)

We are on the hunt for a pair of mid-century arm chairs and depending on which ones we find we may have to reupholster to help fit into the snug space! We have multiple eBay searches set up… and are still to find the perfect ones! I will accompany the mid-century chairs with a berber style rug and a side table (which is currently residing in the front room!) to be used for the important things like flowers and drinks! The chairs will be paced in front of our wood burner, and I can not wait for the first fire!

The bar cart that is currently in the front room will also take pride of place in here… well I  need somewhere to put the gin! It will probably have a little update, maybe some additional greenery, and a new oddity or two just to give it a revamp in it’s new home!

I need to think lighting, I’m umm’ing and ahh’ing in investing in a Tom Dixon Brass pendant which I think will be beautiful against the dark tone, but depending on budget I may need to think of something of an alternative too! As with anything at Number Five, there will definitely be space for the important things like candles, cushions and sheepies too to help texture and that hygge vibe whatever the time of year!

Love to hear what you lovely readers think of my plan for the snug! I can’t wait for it to take shape!

  1. This just sounds perfect! My friend wanted to use Brinjal in her lounge. It’s such a beautiful colour. I can’t wait to see it! Xxx

  2. Loving the look……and I would certainly go for the Tom Dixon lighting, I love his stuff, shame about the kitchen but something to look forward to in the new year xx
